My Journey Through Type 2 Diabetes As Well As My Blood Glucose Monitoring

I've always worried that I would get type 2 diabetes.

My grandmother and mother both suffered from diabetes, which transformed into type 2 during pregnancy. My symptoms began at age 44 -- getting up to go to the bathroom every half an hour during the night, I figured that I was working way too hard. I was a manager at a nonprofit and worked between 40 and 60 hours a week.

I was suffering from these symptoms for four months. It got so bad that I felt extremely tired and felt miserable. This forced me to visit the doctor to determine what it was.

The doctor did an exam of the body and measured my weight and blood pressure. website He also did an A1c blood sugar test. My A1c reading was 12.5 percent which is a lot higher than what is normal. My doctor advised me that, "If you stay on this path, you're bound to do a lot of damage to yourself. It is imperative to alter your lifestyle and shape up.

Apart from my work I was already healthy. My first 3 months of treatment were focused on diet and exercise. The doctor advised me to keep a record of my food intake so that they could make the appropriate changes. He advised me to increase my exercise. My A1c dropped to 10% three months after I quit.

Stay tuned for updates about my experience and the questions I asked and the tools that helped me manage Type 2 Diabetes.
